CLASSES
Mission: The mission of the Business/Marketing Education Department is to enable students to understand and apply business, marketing, management and entrepreneurial principles; to make rational economic decisions; and to exhibit social responsibility in a global economy.
Rationale: High School Business and Marketing courses provide students with the opportunity to develop the critical thinking, reading, writing, and speaking skills necessary to thrive intellectually and socially in today's ever-changing society. All classes in this area examine texts and strategies designed to broaden worldview, educate the imagination, and facilitate problem solving. The curriculum itself establishes a core set of challenging standards for all students. To this end, it provides a concrete and integrated study of literature, writing, researching, and oral communications; it is designed to maximize the student's ability to build on prior knowledge and processes. The use of technology is incorporated to support these endeavors.
The objectives and performance indicators reflect District standards and State Board standards. The ability to produce responsible and effective students of all types is one of the most important keys to success during and after high school. Business and Marketing courses provide instructional tools to master basic skills while also promoting in-depth learning. Perhaps more importantly, it affords constructs designed to encourage students in their search for new knowledge. Diversified learning styles are addressed through various types of instructional strategies. Furthermore, different types of assessments are incorporated to evaluate diversified levels of student understanding. Therefore, the Business and Marketing courses reflect what students must be able to know and be able to do in order to succeed; not only personally, but in our diverse and multi-faceted society.
Business and Marketing education facilitates learning in a student-directed environment based upon learning for and about business. Learners are guided in many ways as they develop skills necessary to be effective consumers, citizens, workers, and business leaders. Learners customize their learning by selecting projects based on personal and career interests; and working independently or in teams, they use a wide range of technology to solve unstructured problems. All of these opportunities support learners’ desires for independence and creativity, as well as their career skills through work experience and student organizations.

- Select and apply tools of technology as they relate to personal and business decision-making.
- Manage data from all of the functional areas of business needed to make wise Management decisions.
- Communicate effectively as writers, listeners, and speakers in social and business Settings.
- Develop career awareness and related skills to make viable career choices and became employed in a variety of business careers.
